What are tyre warmers used for?

Tyre heating blankets bring the tyre temperature – and thus the tyre pressure (irrelevant for foam rubber tyres) – and, above all, the grip to an optimal level before the start.
→ Goal: Maximum grip right from the first metre, not only after 1–2 warm-up laps.

What are the effects of warm tyres?

1. Increased grip
   : The rubber softens, the tyres hug the track better → more mechanical grip.

2. More consistent
   handling: Tyres behave predictably right from the start, no more slippery ‘break-in’ phase.

3. Faster lap times right from the
   startParticularly advantageous in short heats or final races (e.g. 5-minute heats).

4. Better tyre wear (in some cases)
   Tyres wear more evenly because they operate within the optimal temperature range from the start.

How are they used?

1. Fitting : Tyre warmers (usually four) are placed around the fitted wheels.

2. Switch on & select temperature : Typical settings are 40–80 °C, depending on tyre type, track and outside temperature.

3. Warm for 20–30 minutes before the race : This ensures the heat is distributed evenly right down to the tyre core.

4. Optional: Apply tyre grip enhancers (additives) beforehand : This is often combined with the blankets to enhance the effect.

5. Remove immediately before the start and drive : Quick work is required so that the temperature does not drop immediately.

When are tyre heating blankets particularly worthwhile?

• On-road touring cars (1/10 electric, nitro) → Very common

• Stock classes (less engine power) → The extra grip helps when accelerating out of corners

• Low-grip carpet or cold outside temperatures → Critical, as cold tyres build up hardly any grip

• Foam rubber tyres (Nitro Onroad 1/8 & 1/10) → Standard

Less relevant or prohibited : In off-road racing (buggy, truggy) usually uncommon or not permitted under the regulations.
