Pro tip: "The viscosity of the oil in your differential is responsible for its effect. The differential allows the wheels on each axle to turn at different speeds. This is particularly important when cornering, but also when accelerating out of corners. A softer or harder diff can make a big difference depending on the track conditions. Sometimes your car only turns from a "good" to a "perfect" car with a different oil in the differential! "
What is the silicone oil in the differential for?
In the cone differential, the silicone oil ensures how much the wheels on an axle can spin against each other (e.g. when cornering, when the inside wheel has to turn slower than the outside wheel).
Thin oil → easy spinning, thick oil → locked effect (less differentiation).
How does the viscosity of the diff oil affect driving behavior?
