🧰 1. the right choice of tyres

• Slick or minimally profiled: On carpet, finely profiled or almost smooth tyres such as the HUDY Carpet Offroad tyres are ideal as they offer maximum contact area.

• Front vs. rear: Usually grooved or cut-stagger tyres are used at the front, while slick or finely profiled carpet tyres with a soft compound are used at the rear.

🧽 2. running-in & preparation

• Sanding: Briefly "roll" new tyres on the track to remove the shiny release layer. Alternatively, lightly roughen with fine sandpaper (e.g. 400 grit).

• Cleaning: Before each run, clean the tyres thoroughly with carpet cleaner, brake cleaner or special RC tyre cleaners. This keeps the grip constant.

• Tyre conditioner: Many drivers use traction compounds (e.g. SXT or HUDY Grip) to increase grip. Important: apply evenly and allow to take effect according to the regulations of the event.

🌡️ 3. Tyre pressure & temperature

• Although there is no "tyre pressure" in RC, temperature management does play a role:

  • Tyres that are too cold=less grip.

  • Tyres that are too hot=faster wear & unstable handling.

• Tip: Build up the temperature with short warm-up laps before the race.

• Rotate tyres: To achieve even wear, swap front and rear tyres (or left/right) regularly.

• Storage: Store tyres in a cool, dry and dust-free place. Avoid direct sunlight so that the rubber compound does not dry out.

⚠️ 5. Check tyres between runs

• Carpet racing puts a lot of strain on the tyres. Between runs:

  • Check the tread and sidewalls (avoid cracks or delamination).

  • Carefully remove excess rubber threads ("fluff") with scissors or a lighter.

  • Re-tread if necessary.
