MXLR Fan Mount for Awesomatix A12

MXLR product description

This is the final version of the prototype fan mount that Max Mächler used to win the 1/12 SPEC World Championship title in 2023! Using a 30mm fan powered by 6.0V from the receiver was definitely not a disadvantage!

It's not easy to fit such a large and powerful fan in the A12, but using one smaller than 30mm was not an option as we don't want to compromise on performance! In the world Max used a heavily modified fan to cope with the bodywork. After a few more tests and versions, we finally found a suitable way that didn't require so many modifications, if any! We moved the fan further forward and mounted it much steeper on the bracket. The key to still getting good airflow was the small side dams!

The result of using our fan mount with a strong 30mm fan at 6.0V is a much lower engine temperature. Depending on the track layout and grip conditions, the temperature is lowered by 12-18 degrees Celsius! This leads to the ability to use more timing on the motor and/or roll longer, which means more speed!

Our MXLR fan mount is 3D printed from relatively durable material that is capable of absorbing shock to a certain degree. So far, we haven't seen any broken mounts. But we'll say it again - after all, it's 3D printed and not milled or cast, which means it can break!

Our aim was to make it as light and as strong as possible at the same time. Without fan and screws it only weighs 2.6g. We recommend the use of M3x12mm Alloy screws (not included) for the installation of a 30mm fan (not included).

TIP: Don't overtighten the screws, it's only plastic ;-)

The complete assembly of the fan holder weighs approx. 12g, depending on the fan used. You will need longer M3x12mm screws (not included) for mounting on the side wings of the vehicle. Depending on your battery type and the washers used under the side wings of your A12, you may need additional washers (not included) to adjust the height of the fan bracket. If you are using the MXLR fan holder, you may not need the OR230 battery O-ring as the fan holder itself secures the battery.

Depending on the installation position and height adjustment of the body, the fan should stand freely and not touch the polycarbonate. In our tests with the currently most commonly used LMP bodies such as AMR, Ponente and M20, we only made small modifications to the fan on the M20 by grinding off the upper edges. There should be no problems with GT bodies.
