MR33 Silicone Shock Oil 100cSt-800cSt - 75ml
- Product number: MR33-SO-275
High quality damper oil from MR33 ! The oil is graded in steps of 50 and is available in viscosities from 100cst to 800cst.
Simply select your desired viscosity in the drop-down menu and fill the dampers of your RC car with the high-quality MR33 silicone oil.
Content per bottle: 75ml MR33 damper oil
Pro tip: "The viscosity of the damper oil is responsible for how quickly the piston plate moves through the oil-filled damper housing during compression and rebound. Changing the viscosity of the damper oil can greatly change the driving behavior of your remote-controlled RC car - so it's well worth experimenting with it!"
What is the silicone oil in the shock absorber for?
Silicone oil determines how quickly or slowly the shock absorber compresses (compression damping) and rebounds (rebound damping). In other words, it influences how much the car "floats" or "sticks " - i.e. the handling on uneven surfaces and when compressing/rebounding in bends or during jumps.
How does the viscosity (thickness) of the oil affect handling?
Thin oil (low viscosity, e.g. 200-400 cSt) | Thick oil (high viscosity, e.g. 600-1000 cSt) |
---|---|
Damper moves faster (softer damping) | Damper moves more slowly (harder damping) |
More grip on rough ground (wheels "stick") | Less rolling movement, more stability in bends |
Vehicle appears more agile, but more wobbly | Vehicle appears more precise, calmer, but possibly more nervous on bumps |
Better for loose, undulating tracks (e.g. off-road, carpet with a lot of grip loss) | Better for smooth, grippy roads (e.g. high-grip carpet, asphalt) |
Practical examples of the effect:
-
Softer oil at the front → more turn-in (more "bite" at the front)
-
Harder oil at the front → more stable turn-in, less understeer
-
Softer oil at the rear → more traction when accelerating out of corners
-
Harder oil at the rear → more stability when turning in, less oversteer
Other important factors
-
Outside temperature: silicone oil becomes thinner in the heat → thicker oil may be necessary in summer
-
Piston bores (piston holes): The number and size of the holes in the damper piston also influences damping. Small holes + thick oil ≠ same effect as large holes + thin oil → it's an interplay!
-
Spring hardness ≠ damping: silicone oil influences the speed of movement, springs determine the force for rebound → both must fit together!
In short:
With thinner or thicker silicone oil, you can determine exactly whether your car drives more agile, quieter, grippier or more stable. Small changes (e.g. 50-100 cSt difference) make noticeable differences on the track - in other words, an extremely powerful tuning tool.
